Chimbu's Doll, Papua New Guinea 2009
Clutching a clay doll that represents an Asaro Mudman, a Chimbu woman sits patiently, watches tentatively. A young boy is ushered onto the grounds. Laid upon a stretcher made of bamboo, he is covered in moss. His eyes drawn shut, motionless, he simulates death, a passing of her kind. She mourns quietly, finding peace in the idol she holds in her hands.
